David A. Rothenberger MD

Dr. Rothenberger is founder and co-director of the Emerging Physician Leaders Program at the Medical School, which fosters collaboration and develops skills among faculty from all departments. As head of Surgery, he hopes to continue finding ways to encourage collaboration and development of interdisciplinary health care teams to better care for our patients.

David Rothenberger, M.D., will assume the role of head of the Department of Surgery beginning October 1. He currently holds the John P. Delaney Chair of Clinical Surgical Oncology and has been Deputy Chairman of the Department of Surgery since 2006. Rothenberger is an internationally recognized leader in American surgery, a member of the American Surgical Association and many other professional societies. He is past president of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the Research Foundation of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
