Dr. Darshan P. Patel, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained urologist who solely specializes in men's urologic health, including male infertility, low testosterone, erectile dysfunction, Peyronie's disease, prosthetic urology, and cosmetic lower genitourinary reconstruction. Dr. Patel is recognized as a Center of Excellence for penile implant surgery. He is an expert in microsurgical vasectomy reversal, varicocele repair, testicular sperm extraction, as well as medical treatments and advanced surgical reconstruction for complex Peyronie's Disease and erectile dysfunction. He offers minimally invasive surgical therapies for an enlarged prostate, including UroLift and Rezum.
Dr. Patel finds it rewarding to be able to connect with men about often-sensitive issues such as erectile dysfunction or infertility. It is his goal to offer all his patients a personalized, evidence-based treatment plan and guide them on a path toward better health and wellness. As an associate professor in the Department of Urology, he trains medical students, residents, and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine and also conducts research. He currently holds a prestigious grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs evaluating the genetic overlap between erectile dysfunction and cardiovascular diseases. He has been previously funded through competitive grants through the American Urological Association and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute.
He is an associate editor for Therapeutic Advances in Urology and the International Journal of Impotence Research, and serves as a peer reviewer for over a dozen medical journals focused on reproductive urology and men's health. Dr. Patel has authored over 140 peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, textbook chapters, and editorials. His research has appeared in journals such as Fertility and Sterility, Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, Urology, Journal of Urology, World Journal of Urology, and the British Journal of Urology.
Dr. Patel completed a fellowship in andrology, male infertility, and sexual medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, where he also did his residency in urologic surgery. He also completed a clinical research fellowship in reconstructive urology and men's health at the University of Utah. He obtained his medical degree from the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. He is a member of the American Society of Andrology, American Society for Reproductive Medicine, American Urological Association, Society for the Study of Male Reproduction, Sexual Medicine Society of North America, and Society of Urologic Prosthetic Surgeons. Dr. Patel is fluent in Gujarati.
