Dr. Leong’s research content interest is the prevention, identification, and management of cardiovascular disease in the frail and in those with complex disease and multi-morbidity. His research methodological expertise includes clinical biostatistics, epidemiology, and clinical trials. He is leading the development of a clinical and research program for the evaluation and treatment of cardiovascular disease in patients with cancer, at the Juravinski Hospital.

Dr. Leong obtained his medical degree at the University of Adelaide, Australia, graduating with Honours and Dean's Listing for academic excellence. He subsequently undertook his residency in internal medicine and cardiology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, before completing a Master of Public Health and Ph.D. at the University of Adelaide. Dr. Leong then completed a post-doctorate fellowship in cardiovascular imaging at Leiden University Medical Centre, the Netherlands. He was a finalist for the Samuel A. Levine Young Investigator Award of the American Heart Association, 2012, and has published more than 90 peer-reviewed manuscripts. Dr. Leong has received a number of awards, most recently including the E.J.Moran Campbell AFP Internal Career Research Award, McMaster University, and is an Emerging Leader in the World Heart Federation.
