Dr. Darrell Hulisz is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine & Community Health in the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. He also holds a clinical faculty appointment at Ohio Northern University, College of Pharmacy. He received his BS in Pharmacy from the University of Toledo & Doctor of Pharmacy from the Medical University of South Carolina & completed a federal multi-agency fellowship in substance abuse.
Dr. Darrell has published over 70 papers in the medical & pharmacy literature, has lectured extensively both locally & nationally & has served as an investigator in several clinical trials. He also serves on several national advisory panels & is an author for WebMD’s Medscape & the American Pharmacist's Association's "Pharmacy Today." He is also certified by the APhA in Medication Therapy Management.
Dr. Darrell currently practices as a clinical pharmacist with University Hospitals, Case Medical Center, Family Medicine Residency Program, where he works in consultation with family physicians, both on inpatient and outpatient services. Darrell has been the recipient of multiple teaching awards. He also served as a co-investigator for a multidisciplinary chronic pain study funded by the Macy Foundation. He was recently awarded a federal grant as a co-investigator to develop leadership & advocacy in urban health in underserved patients within a multidisciplinary team. He also received funding to help develop & implement the “Stay Well” program which provides basic health screening & improves health literacy in some of Cleveland's poorest neighborhoods.
Dr. Darrell serves on several hospital committees, teaches resident physicians, medical & pharmacy students in both didactic & clinical settings. His areas of expertise include the management of chronic pain, cardiovascular disease & diabetes. Other areas of expertise include psychopharmacology, substance abuse, geriatrics & advocating for medically-vulnerable populations.
