Dr. Dariusz Ziora, MD, PhD, works as a full professor as the head of the Department and Clinic of Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis in Zabrze of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice and as the head of the Pulmonology Department of the Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Zabrze.

He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Silesia in 1982 and started working at the Department and Clinic of Lung Diseases in Zabrze, ŚAM (currently the Medical University of Silesia). He is a specialist in lung diseases and a doctor of internal medicine. He received his doctorate in 1990, the degree of habilitated doctor in 1999, and the title of professor of medicine in 2007. He is the author or co-author of about 250 Polish and foreign scientific papers. Main scientific interests include 1) functional studies of the respiratory system, and 2) the use of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and induced sputum in the diagnosis, prognosis, and understanding of the pathogenesis of interstitial lung diseases and COPD.

Professor Dariusz Ziora completed training and internships abroad at Catharina-Ziekenhuis Eindhoven (Netherlands), Transplant Unit; Papworth-Cambridge (UK), Budapest and Respiratory Medicine Champfer-Saint Moritz (Switzerland).

His research interests include Pulmonology, Pulmonary Sarcoidosis, Pneumonology, Tuberculosis, Asthma, Lung Cancer, and Lung Diseases.
