Darcy Kate Weidemann is a pediatric nephrologist who practices at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She completed her medical training in 2009 at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She remained in Baltimore for the duration of her training, completing her pediatrics residency at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in 2012 and pediatric nephrology fellowship training in 2015. She also received a master’s degree in clinical epidemiology through the Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2014. Dr. Weidemann’s clinical expertise includes chronic kidney disease progression and bone and mineral disorders. Dr Weidemann serves as the program director of the pediatric nephrology fellowship training program, recently rising last month from the position of associate program director, which she held since 2016. Her service roles include serving on the American Board of Pediatrics sub-board of pediatric nephrology, and she is active nationally with pediatric subspecialty workforce development. Most germane to today’s discussion, Dr. Weidemann serves as the Nephrology Quality, Safety, and Operational Excellence Champion and co-director of the QSE Program at Children’s Mercy, leading many institutional and regional QI efforts. Today, she will be speaking to us about her work aimed at improving recognition of impaired kidney function in children with kidney disease.
