Darcy Vavrek is a senior staff biostatistician at Illumina with 17 years of experience as a biostatistician in Biotech and Academia. Prior to joining Illumina, she was an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Western States investigating back pain in adolescents and chronic neck pain in adults. Prior to UWS, she worked at the University of Washington in the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurological Surgery investigating Dementia with Lewy Bodies, Parkinsons' Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, and Traumatic Brain Injury. Prior to UW, Dr. Vavrek was in private practice in Eugene, Oregon, and taught Chemistry Anatomy & Physiology at Lane Community College. Her first job in Biotech, prior to her clinical training, was as an organic chemist at Molecular Probes making fluorescent dyes that are the precursors to what is used in genetic sequencing today. Dr. Vavrek received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine and her MS in Biostatistics from the University of Washington.
