Danielle Friberg MD, PhD

Professor Danielle Friberg, MD, PhD, is a Swedish academic and clinician specializing in Otorhinolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery) at Uppsala University’s Department of Surgical Sciences in Sweden. She earned her PhD in 1997, became a senior surgeon in ENT in 1999, and was appointed Associate Professor in 2011 at the Karolinska Institutet before joining Uppsala University as a full professor in 2021. Throughout her career, Professor Friberg has focused her research on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and pharyngeal surgery, leading multiple randomized controlled trials to evaluate surgical treatments in both adult and pediatric populations.

She has authored over 50 original research articles and served as the principal supervisor for several doctoral students. Her research group also manages biobanks and conducts comprehensive clinical and translational studies in airway surgery and sleep disorders. Although now Professor Emerita as of September 2023, she continues to be actively involved in research and academic mentorship, contributing to evidence-based practice in ENT and OSA management.
