Dr. Daniel W. Visscher received his BS degree from Indiana University and his MD degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He took his Residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Indiana Medical Center and a Fellowship in Surgical Pathology and Cytology at the University of Alabama, Birmingham Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.

Dr. Visscher is a Consultant and Professor of Pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He was previously Professor of Pathology and Director of Surgical Pathology at The University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is Senior Associate Editor of the journal Human Pathology, and serves on the editorial board of the journal Modern Pathology. He has contributed chapters to numerous medical texts and is the author of Pathology: An Outline and Study Aid.

Dr. Visscher has been a pathologist at three academic practices, including Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University. He has been a professor of pathology since 2000.

Dr. Visscher is a devoted "generalist" and has participated mostly in surgical pathology services, although autopsies, breast consults, pulmonary pathology consults, cytology, and even placenta sign-outs have been a part of his practice at various times along the way. He has been a pathology course director, a surgical pathology director, and even a residency program director during his career, all of which serve to show that he has been around the profession for quite some time now.
