Dr. Daniel provides the pace, steer and commitment which drives the Informatics unit at the University Hospitals Birmingham. Daniel holds an Honorary Research Contract with the University Hospitals Birmingham and is extremely influential in the Healthcare IT network.
Dr. Daniel has over a decade of knowledge in the use and application of informatics and has actively guided the evolution of the use of information within the West Midlands, by aiding the set up of an information driven commissioning support agency and core standards to be used when supporting commissioning services.
Dr. Daniel established the Quality Outcomes Research Unit at the University Hospitals Birmingham with a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Domenico Pagano. The QORU remit is to generate, automate and utilise key indicators to drive clinical improvement rather than operational performance. The QORU work stream was so successful it won the E-Health Insider award for best use of information in 2008.
Dr. Daniel has presented at many national conferences, most recently as the key note speaker at the HSJ Informatics Conference and is a weekly contributor to the E Health Insider discussing the use of information to drive performance and quality improvements.
