Daniel Brown MD

Dr. Daniel R. Brown is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Consultant in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. A board-certified anesthesiologist and critical care specialist, he is internationally recognized for his leadership in critical care medicine, perioperative outcomes research, healthcare delivery innovation, and hospital operations.

Dr. Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Hamline University, followed by a Ph.D. in Physiology and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland-affiliated Mercy Medical Center and subsequently completed residency and fellowship training in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is board-certified in both Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.

Throughout his career, Dr. Brown has focused on improving the organization and delivery of care for critically ill patients. His research and leadership activities emphasize critical care systems, hospital operations, emergency preparedness, pandemic response, resource allocation, workforce sustainability, and evidence-based healthcare redesign. Using a data-driven approach, he has helped develop innovative models for delivering high-quality care while supporting healthcare professionals in demanding clinical environments.
