Daniel M. Neumark was born in Chicago, IL, in 1955. He received a B.A. degree in chemistry and physics from Harvard University, Cambridge, an M.A. degree in chemistry in 1977, and a Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1984.,From 1984 to 1986, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at JILA, the joint institute of the University of Colorado and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the University of Colorado. Since 1986, he has been a Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. He was the Director of the Chemical Sciences Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 2000–to 2010 and has been the Chair of the Department of Chemistry, since 2010., Prof. Neumark is a recipient of the American Chemical Society Nobel Laureate Signature Award (2001), the Optical Society of America William F. Meggers Award (2005), and the American Chemical Society Irving Langmuir Award in Chemical Physics (2008). He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
