Daniel Langer graduated in 2002 as Physiotherapist at the Hogeschool Zuyd, Heerlen, The Netherlands, and subsequently obtained his Master's in Health Sciences and Epidemiology at the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands in 2005. In 2010 he completed his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy at KU Leuven.

His research has and will be focused on the effects of pulmonary rehabilitation on physical fitness and participation in daily physical activity in chronic respiratory disease. During his postdoctoral period from 2010 until 2018 (Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, KU Leuven and Queens University, Kingston, Ontario) he has also been involved in developing novel methods for respiratory muscle conditioning for use in pulmonary rehabilitation programs both in stable outpatients and in critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit.

Dr. Langer has been chair of the Respiratory Physiotherapy group of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) since 2015 and is elected secretary of the Allied health professionals assembly of the ERS (mandate starting in October 2018).
