Daniel Hwang studied Biology and religion at Swarthmore College, Computer Science at the University of Maryland in College Park, and studies Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University. His introduction to blockchain and cryptocurrencies began when he started mining Bitcoin and Dogecoin in 2013. He is interested in the overlap between the healthcare sectors and blockchain. At Genentech, he has worked on technical architecture ideations for ophthalmology data sharing protocols utilizing Ocean Protocol.
He has also worked on blockchain proof of concepts for sample management supply chain solutions using hyperledger fabric. He currently leads the IEEE Workstream on Blockchain based Health Data and Quality Scoring which is formed from individuals in the blockchain industry, regulatory sectors, and healthcare sector. His interests include blockchain based identity, security protocols, bioinformatics, metagenomics, digital inclusion, and relief work.
