Daniel G Bichet, MD is a Professor of Medicine, Pharmacology, and Physiology at the University of Montreal and a staff nephrologist at the Sacre-Coeur Hospital in Montreal. In collaboration with Mariel Birnbaumer (Baylor) his laboratory identified the first mutations responsible for X-linked nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. Dr. Bichet obtained a Canadian Institute Health Research Chair in Genetics of Renal Diseases from 2003 to 2010. His laboratory is contributing to the prevention of extreme dehydration states in children with polyuric disorders. Dr. Bichet received the Medal of the Kidney Foundation of Canada in 1998, a Doctorat Honoris Causa from the University of Nancy (France) in 1999, and the Jean Hamburger Medal in 2010.
