Dr. Daniel Dean Borgeson, MD, FACC, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and a board-certified cardiologist in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He specializes in heart failure, advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, clinical cardiology, and echocardiography, with extensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex cardiovascular diseases, including cardiomyopathies and cardiac amyloidosis. His clinical practice emphasizes comprehensive, patient-centered care supported by advanced cardiovascular imaging and evidence-based therapies.
Dr. Borgeson earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from North Dakota State University before receiving his Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine, an NIH Cardiovascular Research Fellowship, and a fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at Mayo Clinic. He is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and holds certification in Adult Transthoracic and Transesophageal Echocardiography from the National Board of Echocardiography.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Borgeson serves as Director of the Mayo School of Health Sciences Echocardiography Program, where he plays a pivotal role in educating sonographers, cardiology fellows, residents, and medical students. A dedicated educator and mentor, he has contributed extensively to cardiovascular training and the advancement of echocardiography education at Mayo Clinic. He is an active member of the Heart Failure Society of America, the American Society of Echocardiography, the American Medical Association, and the Minnesota Medical Association.
Dr. Borgeson's research focuses on heart failure, cardiac amyloidosis, echocardiography, valvular heart disease, and the application of artificial intelligence in cardiovascular diagnostics. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications investigating AI-enhanced electrocardiography, cardiac amyloidosis, structural heart disease, and outcomes in advanced heart failure, contributing to innovations that improve early diagnosis and patient management. His work has appeared in leading cardiovascular journals and has advanced the understanding of imaging-based risk stratification and heart failure care.
