Daniel Arber MD

Dr. Arber attended Texas A&M University and the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School in San Antonio, Texas. After a rotating internship in Monroe, Louisiana, he did a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Scott & White Clinic in Temple, Texas. He was then a fellow in Hematopathology at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California with training from Henry Rappaport, Lawrence Weiss, Hector Battifora, Russell Brynes, and others. Dr. Arber was the Director of Hematopathology and Molecular Pathology at the City of Hope prior to moving to Stanford University. At Stanford, he was the Ronald F. Dorfman Professor of Hematopathology and Vice Chair of Clinical Services. In 2016, he moved to the University of Chicago where he is the Donald West and Mary Elizabeth King Professor and Chair of Pathology.

Dr. Arber’s research interest is in the diagnosis, classification, and molecular genetic changes of hematologic and splenic neoplasms. He is a co-editor/author of nine textbooks, including two editions of Hematopathology and three editions of Wintrobe’s Clinical Hematology. His publications include over 300 original articles and book chapters in the area of hematopathology and diagnostics. He was a senior advisor for the 2016 WHO Classification of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and a past President of the Society for Hematopathology.
