Dana R. Sands, MD, FACS, FASCRS, is a Staff Surgeon in the Department of Colorectal Surgery and Director of the Colorectal Physiology Center at Cleveland Clinic Florida Weston, where she was appointed in 2002. Her specialty interests include benign anorectal diseases, fecal incontinence, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, pelvic floor dysfunction, and transanal endoscopic microsurgery. She is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
After attaining her BS in biology from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., Dr. Sands earned her medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1996. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla., followed by a colorectal surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Florida, Weston. Dr. Sands is licensed to practice in the state of Florida.
She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons, the Broward County Medical Association, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Sands writes numerous papers, book chapters, and abstracts in her field and presents at major medical meetings and symposia.
