Dan Swayze is Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh where he is responsible for education, research, communications center and business development initiatives for this $60M not-for-profit organization. Dan developed a pioneering community health initiative involving EMS personnel performing non-emergent care in the community. Previously Dan was responsible for all EMS outreach and educational activities for UPMC, a large, academic hospital and HMO system. In these capacities Dan has developed extensive knowledge of the use of non-physician clinicians delivering care in the community, how to train personnel in these tasks, and how to market to and recruit patients for these programs.
