Professor Dan Reinstein combines his extensive experience in laser refractive surgery with his background in bioengineering. He has personally performed well over 30,000 laser refractive procedures and is recognized for his particular expertise in the management and treatment of complications after laser refractive surgery in great part because of his research in developing and using the world’s most accurate micro-imaging of the cornea: the Artemis VHF digital ultrasound arc-scanning technology. Other special interests include the systematization of surgical techniques, quality control, and quality assurance in refractive surgery.

Prof. Reinstein established the London Vision Clinic in 2002 as a private, academic refractive surgery practice. Since 2001 he has been the lead clinical consultant to Carl Zeiss Meditec for refractive lasers, taking a lead role in the development of their excimer laser technology. He developed Laser Blended Vision for correcting presbyopia and reading vision and has contributed to the development of a new flapless keyhole method of performing LASIK known as ReLEx SMILE with patents relating to these. He also designed, patented, and developed the Carl Zeiss CRS-Master custom wavefront ablation platform.

Dr. Reinstein, a medical graduate from the University of Cambridge, is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Medical Center, New York, and the Centre Hospitalier National d'Ophtalmologie des Quinze-Vingts, Paris. He is an American Board Certified Ophthalmologist, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK).

Concurrently with his medical career, Dr. Reinstein attended the Berklee College of Music for two years on a performance scholarship and plays regularly at the 606 Club in London. He lives in central London with his veterinarian wife Ursula and their three children Julia, Maxwell, and Oscar.
