Dame Sally Claire Davies DBE, FMedSci, FRS

Professor Dame Sally Davies FRS FMedSci is the Chief Medical Officer for England, a post she took up in 2010. The Chief Medical Officer acts as the UK government’s principal medical adviser and the professional head of all directors of public health in local government. The CMO carries the rank of Permanent Secretary and advises the Secretary of State for Health on medical matters. She is also the professional head of the Department of Health’s medical staff and head of the Medical Civil Service.

Professor Davies also chairs the UK Clinical Research Collaboration, and is a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Advisory Committee on Health Research; the board of the Office for Strategic Co-ordination of Health Research; the International Advisory Committee for ASTAR, Singapore; and the Caribbean Health Research Council.
