Dalia A. Banks MD, FASE

Dalia A. Banks, MD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist who specializes in cardiothoracic anesthesia. Cardiothoracic anesthesiologists provide anesthesia for people undergoing surgical procedures which may involve the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other organs in the chest. Dr. Banks serves as the division chief of cardiothoracic anesthesiology and the director of the cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship. She is also the medical director of the Procedural Treatment Unit (PTU) at UC San Diego Health's Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center.

Dr. Banks instructs medical students, residents, and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She has written over thirty articles and book chapters on the topics related to cardiothoracic anesthesiology and has lectured and presented on this topic at conferences around the world.

Dr. Banks completed a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at Harvard University School of Medicine. She trained as a resident at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J., and Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn. She earned her medical degree from Cairo University in Egypt. She is board certified in anesthesiology and echocardiography.

Dr. Banks is a fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). She is a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, where she serves as the chair of the newsletter committee, and a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology.
