Dae Kim MBChB, BDS, MSc, FRCS (ORL-HNS), PhD

Mr Dae Kim is currently a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth and St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester. He is a member of both the multidisciplinary head & neck cancer team and the multidisciplinary thyroid team.

He qualified in Medicine from Edinburgh University in 1995 and subsequently trained at Edinburgh and Cambridge teaching hospitals. He gained further specialist training with Professor Ian Jackson (the Surgeon who treated the ‘boy David’- a ‘boy born with no face’) at the Craniofacial Institute, Michigan, USA. In 2009, after completing a General ENT surgery program within the West Midlands, he was awarded the Specialist Training Certificate in Otolaryngology, and is on the GMC Specialist Register.

Dae has a strong commitment to research. He was a research fellow at the Harvard Medical School and completed a PhD doctorate research degree (under Professor Franklyn, President of the British Thyroid Association and Professor Watkinson, President of The British Association of Endocrine Surgeons and the British Association of Head & Neck Surgeons), examining the molecular basis of both thyroid and head & neck cancers, for which he was awarded the prestigious ‘Syme Medal’ by the Royal College of Surgeons. Through his research activities he has developed strong and ongoing links with various departments within the world famous MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Harvard University Cancer Centre. Presently, he is co-ordinating the Clinical Trials program in Head & Neck cancer at the Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Dae aims to develop his present surgical and research practice to provide, in the near future, exciting innovations in surgical techniques, including minimally invasive, endoscopic & ‘scarless’ neck surgery and novel genetic-based tests that provide more rapid and accurate diagnostic tests of thyroid and head & neck cancers.

Dae is married with four children who provide balance and immeasurable joy. He is actively involved in his church community. He has a passion for sports and has a special interest in golf, which he had considered at one time professionally.
