Cindy Roat is a national consultant on language access in health care. She holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Washington and has served the language access field as an interpreter, trainer, researcher, writer, and consultant for the past 21 years. An experienced interpreter trainer and curriculum developer, Cindy has contributed to the development of four basic interpreter programs, including Bridging the Gap, the country’s most widely-offered training for health care interpreters.
She has taught at universities, community colleges, and conferences, and her most recent book, Healthcare Interpreting in Small Bites, is being adopted as an ancillary text in many healthcare interpreter training programs. Cindy currently serves as the Chair of the Standards, Training and Certification Committee of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care. An energetic advocate of interpreter education, Cindy is also an engaging speaker whose sense of humor enlivens her presentations.
