Courtney Erin Francis ScB, MD

Dr. Francis is an assistant professor of neuro-ophthalmology and medical student clerkship director at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. She supervises ophthalmology residents at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Puget Sound Veterans Affairs Hospital - Seattle Division, and has hospital privileges at the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Children's Hospital and Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Medical Center, all in Seattle.

She is conducting research on the possible association between the use of PDE5 inhibitors and the risk of acute nonarteritic ischemic optic neuropathy. She is the author of peer-reviewed articles and other publications, and is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology.

She also serves on the Clinical Trials Committee and Resident Evaluation Council in the department of ophthalmology at the University of Washington.

Dr. Francis received a Bachelor of Science from Brown University in Providence, R.I., and her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, N.Y. She completed a preliminary year in internal medicine at Baystate Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine in Springfield, Mass., followed by an ophthalmology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital in Birmingham, Ala., and a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and the Doheny Eye Institute in Los Angeles.
