Dr. Courtney Bartel is a physician-scientist specializing in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, nutrition, and inflammatory bowel disease research. She earned both her MD and PhD from Case Western Reserve University in 2019, where her doctoral research focused on breast cancer cell biology and translational biomedical science. Following medical school, she discovered a strong passion for pediatric gastrointestinal medicine and moved to Cincinnati to complete her General Pediatrics residency in 2022.

She is currently completing her clinical fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, with a specialized focus on inflammatory bowel disease. Her research interests center on understanding how the intestinal epithelial barrier contributes to the pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel disease and how epithelial dysfunction influences disease progression and treatment response.

In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr. Bartel is passionate about combining translational science with patient-centered care to improve outcomes for children with chronic gastrointestinal diseases. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling to Walt Disney World.
