Cosby Stone MD, MPH

Cosby Allen Stone, Jr., MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonology, and Critical Care Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

He received his baccalaureate degree, (magna cum laude) in mathematics from Vanderbilt University. He obtained his MD and MPH degrees from the University of Alabama Schools of Medicine and Public Health, Birmingham, Alabama. During this time, he worked in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, supported as a Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholar. He did his internship and residency at Yale in internal medicine and pediatrics, serving as chief resident. He then entered the Vanderbilt fellowship training program in allergy and immunology and completed that program in 2019.

Dr. Stone has expertise in epidemiology, clinical drug allergy, and translational mechanistic projects in drug and vaccine allergy. He is engaged in pioneering clinical/translational research specifically focused on beta-lactam antibiotic allergies with a secondary interest in immediate excipient allergies to alpha-gal and polyethylene glycols/polysorbates.

Dr. Stone has been recognized as an exceptional physician, particularly noted for his warm, personal style and tireless commitment to his patients, which contributes to his effectiveness as a clinician. He has been interviewed more than 10 times by regional print and television media and nationally by National Geographic, US News and World Report, the NPR radio network, and The New York Times.
