Corneliu Bolbocean PhD, MA, MPPM

Dr. Corneliu Bolbocean is a Senior Researcher in Health Economics at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Simon Fraser University and specializes in applying rigorous quantitative methods to health, social policy, and clinical research.

His research integrates causal inference, applied econometrics, machine learning, prediction modelling, and health economics to evaluate healthcare interventions and policies. His work has been supported by organizations including the NIHR and Horizon Europe, with research addressing the long-term health and quality-of-life consequences of very preterm or very low birthweight, pregnancy loss, neurodevelopmental disability, and orthopaedic trauma.

Dr. Bolbocean has published extensively as a first author in leading international journals, including Value in Health, Social Science & Medicine, PharmacoEconomics, Quality of Life Research, Autism Research, and Food Policy. His recent research has examined the health-economic burden of miscarriage, quality-of-life outcomes among adults born very preterm or with very low birthweight, neonatal complications, telehealth utilization, and outcomes following hip fracture.

In addition to his research role, Dr. Bolbocean serves as an Associate Editor of Quality of Life Research (2026–2029) and has delivered plenary lectures at major international scientific societies. He also welcomes prospective DPhil students interested in health economics, causal inference, prediction modelling, preference-based outcome measurement, and the economic evaluation of complex interventions.
