Cornelis J. Stam was born in 1959. He received a Medical degree in medicine from the University of Utrecht, Utrecht, the Netherlands, in 1985, and a Ph.D. degree from the Vrije Universiteit (VU), Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 1992., Since 2000, he has been a Full Professor of clinical neurophysiology in the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, VU University Medical Hospital, Amsterdam. His current research interests include the development and use of nonlinear time series analysis of EEG and magnetoencephalogram (MEG) signals to study normal and disturbed cognitive function in a broad range of neurological disorders., Dr. Stam is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Neuroscience (ICEN) of the VU, the Chair of the science committee of the ICEN, and a member of the Science Board of the VU. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Human Brain Mapping and the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, and an Associate Editor of Clinical Neurophysiology.
