Colby Rowe is the Director of Emergency Management, Training, and Outreach at the Stony Brook University Police Department-Office of Emergency Management, working to further Stony Brook's reach and enhance our partnerships and collaboration on campus as well as with our regional emergency service sector partners.
Colby joined the UPD-OEM team in March when our COVID response was ramping up and played an integral role in our campus response and recovery from the pandemic. He was part of the leadership team planning, coordinating, and managing the day-to-day operations of the COVID pooled testing sites and has since participated in numerous pandemic-related campus committees.
Colby began his career at Stony Brook University in 1991 in the Emergency Medical Services department as an EMT, then as a Paramedic, and eventually as Assistant Director of the department. He also served as Director of Clinical Simulation for the Stony Brook School of Medicine and as the Prehospital Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Division of Trauma Surgery at Stony Brook Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital prior to joining UPD-OEM.
Colby holds a bachelor’s degree in Community and Human Services and a master’s degree in Healthcare Policy and Management from Stony Brook University. He has completed studies related to terrorism, disaster preparedness, and emergency management from the Federal Emergency Management Administration’s Center for Domestic Preparedness and from the National Disaster Life Support Foundation, and instructs on topics of Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness and Disaster Life Support.
