Claude Wasterlain received an MD from the University of Liege and an L.Sc. in Molecular Biology from the Free University of Brussels in Belgium, and got his Neurology training at Cornell-New York Hospital under Fred Plum. He did postdoctoral work with Jerry Posner at Sloan-Kettering. He received the American Epilepsy Society's Award for Basic Research in Epilepsy in 1992, the International League Against Epilepsy's "Ambassador for Epilepsy" award in 2003, and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society's Pierre Gloor award in 2006. He is a distinguished professor and vice-chair of Neurology at UCLA, and service chief at the VA.
