Claire Kaufman, MD, is a Boston native who attended Tufts University for an undergraduate degree in Biology followed by medical school at Boston University. Knowing she wanted a career in interventional radiology, after medical school, she stayed in Boston for her general surgery internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She then moved to New Haven, Connecticut where she completed her radiology residency at Yale New-Haven Hospital. During her final year, she served as chief resident. After their residency, she moved across the country to San Diego to complete a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at the University of California San Diego. Given her love of the outdoors, Dr. Kaufman was thrilled to move to Salt Lake City with her family and join the radiology department at the University of Utah.

Dr. Kaufman has a passion and focuses on education. She is the Associate Program Director of the IR/DR residency and the IR fellowship. She is very involved with medical student education serving as a medical student mentor and on the University of Utah Medical School admissions committee.

Dr. Kaufman is a board-certified interventional radiologist. She performs a wide variety of interventional radiology procedures including vascular and non-vascular procedures. Her specific clinical and research interests include vascular malformations, hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, venous interventions, and women’s interventions. She has published numerous articles and book chapters in addition to serving on national committees.
