Dr. Citlalli Osorio-Yanez, MSc, Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Child Health at the ISGlobal Barcelona Institute for Global Health. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute. Her research focuses on cardiovascular effects associated with environmental exposure to metals during susceptible stages of life such as early childhood and pregnancy. Children are a high-risk group as regards the health effects of water contaminants and some studies suggest that early exposure during childhood can play an important role in the development of chronic diseases in adulthood. During her Ph.D., he was involved in a cross-sectional study with children exposed to arsenic through drinking water and cardiovascular effects such as intima-media thickness increase, blood pressure increase, and cardiac hypertrophy measured by echocardiography. Currently, she works with the OMEGA Study cohort focused on maternal exposure to cadmium and blood pressure increase during the first, second, and third trimesters of pregnancy.
