Cisca (tjitske Nienke) Wijmenga PhD

Cisca Wijmenga obtained a Masters degree in Biology at the University of Groningen, in 1988. She continued her Ph.D. work at Leiden University (degree in 1993) and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (1994-1996) under Francis Collins. In 1996 she became a staff member at the University of Utrecht and was appointed full professor in 2003. In 2007 she became head of Genetics at the UMCG in Groningen. She is a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences (KNAW) and the Academia Europaea.
