Christopher Nahm BSc, MBBS, FRACS, PhD

Dr. Chris Nahm is a Consultant Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary (HPB) and General Surgeon and Clinical Superintendent in Surgery at Westmead Hospital. Having completed specialist training in General Surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital, he was awarded Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2016. In 2019, he was awarded a Ph.D. for pancreatic cancer research undertaken in the Bill Walsh Laboratory for Cancer Research in the Kolling Institute, The University of Sydney. He was the inaugural Harris Van Beek Scholar for Pancreatic Cancer Research in 2018, the Herbert and Gloria Kees Scholar in 2016, and the previous Sydney Vital Scholar.

His thesis explored predictors of oncological and postoperative outcomes after pancreatic cancer surgery. Ranking 1st in the national ANZHPBA Fellowship Match, he then undertook a clinical fellowship in HPB surgery at Westmead Hospital in Sydney prior to moving to the UK to gain further experience in complex liver resections, abdominal organ transplant, and multiorgan retrieval surgery at St James's University Hospital in Leeds. He has been selected for the role of Assistant Editor for HPB (Elsevier), the Official Journal of the International Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary Association (IHPBA) from 2022. He is also a reviewer for the British Medical Journal, HPB, Pancreas, Scientific Reports, ANZ Journal of Surgery, and Cancers. He has clinical and research interests in the liver, biliary, and pancreatic cancer biology and in surgical resection of liver, pancreas, and bile duct tumors. Dr. Nahm has an active role in teaching and research supervision of medical students and surgical trainees and is a coordinator for SURG5025 in the Masters of Surgery course.
