Dr. John completed his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina before attending the University of Louisville School of Medicine to earn his medical degree. He then completed an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Alabama Hospitals and a fellowship in sports medicine at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center.

As a sports medicine provider at Carilion Clinics Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences, Dr. John specializes in shoulder, elbow, and knee arthroscopy; rotator cuff, shoulder and elbow instability; elbow tendonitis, and all knee sports injuries. He is an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and an assistant clinical professor in the department of orthopedic surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Dr. John is the team physician at Virginia Military Institute, Southern Virginia University, Roanoke's Patrick Henry High School, and Valley Select Lacrosse. He is also a reviewer for Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopy and Related Surgery.
