Christopher Baehr PhD

Christopher Baehr, PhD, is a biomedical engineer and CRISPR delivery scientist specializing in the development of in vivo genome editing technologies. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Innovative Genomics Institute and the University of California, Berkeley, where he focuses on overcoming one of the central challenges in gene editing: safely and efficiently delivering CRISPR systems to target cells within the body.

Baehr designs non-viral, modular delivery platforms for genome editing effectors, with a particular emphasis on CRISPR ribonucleoproteins. He developed PERCEPT, a ligand-based conjugation platform that enables targeted, quantitative delivery across multiple tissues, including the central nervous system, retina, lung epithelium, and skeletal muscle. His work aims to bridge the gap between promising gene editing tools and clinically viable therapies by addressing the “last-mile” problem of delivery.

He earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Davis, where his research focused on peptide-based nanoparticle systems for cancer therapeutics and advanced imaging approaches for tracking drug delivery in vivo. His broader research spans nanomaterials, gene editing, and translational biotechnology, with applications in neurological disease, oncology, and precision medicine.
