Christina Niermann studied sports science, psychology, and nutritional science (Magistra artium) at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel from 2003 to 2007. She then received her doctorate at the CAU Kiel at the Institute for Sports Psychology and Movement Sciences. After completing her doctorate, she led two projects at the University of Konstanz (2011 - 2014) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (2015 - 2017) as part of BMBF-funded joint projects (EATMOTIVE - Why we eat what we eat: Motives, social context and economic impact; SMARTACT: Normal eating behavior and physical activity: mobile interventions). During this time, she established a research collaboration with the Department of Health Promotion at Maastricht University and spent several research stays at Maastricht University between 2013 and 2015.
After her parental leave, she resumed her academic work at the University of Konstanz in 2017, where she led two research projects: "AMbit - Active Mobility in Urban Environments" (DFG) and "Familie + - Living Healthy Together in Family and School". In spring 2022, she returned to the north when she moved to the Medical School Hamburg and is employed here as a research assistant in research and teaching. Christina Niermann was a member of the speaker's council of the Commission for Young Scientists of the German Association for Sports Science from 2011-2021, where she advocated for the interests of young scientists for many years. From 2015-2021 she held the position of first chairwoman. As part of her voluntary work, she organized events for young talent, designed prizes for young talent, participated in the editorial board of the magazine 'Ze-phir' and wrote various articles for it.
