Christian Schlensak, born in 1968, is a medical director and full professor of the University Clinic for Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and a certified pediatric cardiac surgeon.
Christian Schlensakstudied human medicine at the University of Essen and, after completing his doctorate in 1996, completed his specialist training as a cardiovascular surgeon. Research stays took the heart specialist to, among others, the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Harvard Medical School, Dept. of Cardiovascular Surgery, in Boston, USA, and to the Hospital For Sick Children, Division of Cardiovascular Surgery, in Toronto, Canada. In 2008 he carried out the first infant heart transplant in Baden-Wurttemberg. As part of the "Rescue Children's Hearts" initiative, which he co-founded, Christian Schlensak completed numerous operations trips to Asia and Central America. In 2011 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Universidad Autonoma de Santa Anna, El Salvador.
