Dr. Christian Matula serves as Professor of Neurosurgery at the Neurosurgical Department, Medical University of Vienna, Austria. He represents the director of the Skull Base Division and Head of the Neurotrauma. From an international perspective, he is currently holding the position of Vice President and Member of the Foundation Board of Global Neuro, an independent foundation aiming to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from neurosurgical disorders. He is also holding the position of a member of the Educational Committee of the World Federation of Neurological Surgery (WFNS) and the European Association of Neurological Surgeons (EANS). Most currently he serves as a permanent member of the Shenzhen Sami Medical Center (SSMC) Advisory Board. In addition to that, he is the medical director of two private health care centers, in Vienna and another one in Lower Austria.

Dr. Matula received his M.D. degree in 1986 from the University of Vienna, Austria, fulfilled his Ph.D. in Neuroendoscopy in 1996, and has been appointed as Professor of Neurosurgery in 1997 at the same University. He has completed long-term foreign visits with a special focus on Neuroanatomy in Wurzburg, Skull Base Surgery in Washington, and vascular surgery in Phoenix. Dr. Matula has developed an international reputation in Skull Base Surgery with a special focus on Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery, Neuroendoscopy, and the area of Neurotrauma. In general, his major interests always have been new surgical technologies and the clinical implementation of those techniques. He has organized more than 150 workshops and courses worldwide and has given more than 500 invited lectures as visiting professors all over the world. He is the author of more than 350 publications mostly on microsurgical techniques, skull base surgery, neuro endoscopy, neurotrauma and education, and training in Neurosurgery.

His scientific work includes several textbooks, atlas but also interactive electronic publications. As director of the educational program for neurosurgery at the Medical University of Vienna, he has initiated a variety of well-known seminars and played a major role in developing and enhancing the neurosurgical educational program at his Medical University. He is a member of several International Neurosurgical Societies such as the Austrian, German and Swiss society, and a recipient of several awards and honors.
