Assoc.Professor Christian Hamilton-Craig graduated in medicine from the University of Adelaide, and completed his Honours thesis at Trinity College, Cambridge UK, on the topic of cardiac risk assessment. After training in Internal Medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, he completed cardiology training at Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane. He was the inaugural Queensland International Fellowship Scholar in 2009, working at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome Italy. In 2009-10 he was the inaugural Washington-Queensland Transpacific Fellow at the University of Washington, Seattle USA, where he remains affiliate Assistant Professor of Radiology.

During his time at the University of Washington, he was trained in Adult Congenital Heart Disease, working with Dr Karen Stout (ACHD chief author of ACC guidelines), and Prof Catherine Otto (authority in echocardiography and ACHD). He continues to collaborate with UW as well as the Adult Congenital Heart Service at the University of Sydney (Prof David Celermajer and Dr Raj Puranik). He returned to Queensland to complete his PhD in Non-Invasive Cardiac Imaging, and is currently employed as a Senior Staff Specialist at the Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, with a primary academic appointment at the University of Queensland School of Medicine & Centre for Advanced Imaging, with affiliate/conjoint positions at the University of Washington Seattle (USA) , and the Griffith University School of Medicine (Gold Coast).

He has performed over 60 invited talks on cardiac imaging and clinical cardiology, and more than 100 scientific abstract presentations, over 50 published papers, and has published 2 textbooks. He is an Executive member of the CSANZ Guidelines Committee for Calcium Scoring Non-Invasive Cardiac Imaging and Chair of the ANZCMR Guidelines Committee for Cardiovascular MRI. He is Chair of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography Committee in Australia-New Zealand; the President of the Australia New Zealand Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (ANZCMR, a working group of the SCMR); and Foundation Chair of Cardiac Imaging Australasia, a not-for-profit dedicated international symposium for education in cardiac imaging (www.cardiacimaging.org.au). His interests include the application of imaging technology to clinical practice, advanced cardiac risk assessment, indigenous health, and cardiac imaging education in the Asia-Pacific region.
