Christian G. Chaussy, MD, HonFRCSEd, is a Professor of Urology at The University of Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany. Dr. Christian G. Chaussy studied medicine at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany, and spent several years as a staff member at the Institute for Surgical Research at the University of Munich, where he did research in the field of transplantation. In 1975, during his residency at the University of Munich, he began (together with Ferdinand Eisenberger and Bernd Forssmann) the pre-clinical and clinical research for Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL). At the Institute for Surgical Research, in 1980, he performed the first-ever ESWL treatment on a patient. In 1981, he became a Professor of Urology at the University of Munich. In 1984, Dr. Chaussy accepted a position at the University of California, Los Angeles, as Professor of Urology and Head of the Stone Center.
