Dr. Chris Van Vliet completed his undergraduate training at the University of Pretoria in 1998 and his internship at various hospitals in the UK. He started his training in anatomical pathology in New Zealand in September 2001. He was appointed as Consultant Pathologist at Auckland Hospital in 2006 and developed a special interest in haematopathology, cytology, molecular pathology, and disease-specific to Maori and Polynesian people. Chris undertook a fellowship, and training in cytopathology and haematopathology at PathWest QEII in Perth in 2012 and joined the consulting staff at PathWest in 2013. He recently joined the Diagnostic Genomics team and is actively involved in FISH analysis of mesothelioma, lung cancer, and lymphoma. Chris regularly lectures at Australasian pathology conferences and serves on the International Board of the Journal of Haematopathology and Pathology (the official journal of the RCPA). He is also a member of the RCPA Cytopathology Advisory Committee.
