Chris Shibutani MD

Chris Shibutani is a managing director and senior research analyst covering biotechnology stocks. Prior to joining Cowen in October 2015, his career included a range of experiences in both academic clinical medicine as well as in equity research as both a buy- and sell-side analyst. Dr. Shibutani is board certified in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. He trained at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and was on staff at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. In 1998, he joined Hambrecht & Quist and covered stocks in the biotechnology, medical device, and life science tools subsectors.

From 2003 to 2007, he covered U.S. major pharmaceutical stocks at JPMorgan. After that, he was senior analyst and portfolio manager with UBS O’Connor Global Asset Management and was a senior health care analyst with Pioneer Investment Management. Dr. Shibutani holds a BA in biology from Harvard University, an MBA from Columbia Business School, and an M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
