Dr. Guerin was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his medical education at Loyola University School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois and internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Guerin completed his subspecialty training in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the Mayo Clinic before moving to San Diego. He continued his research interests while in San Diego by completing a Post-Doctoral Scholarship sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) at UCSD. Dr. Guerin is board certified in Endocrinology and Metabolism, Internal Medicine, and Lipidology.

Dr. Guerin has been serving the North County since 1983. He previously served as Chief of the Division of Internal Medicine and Chair of the Department of Medicine at Tri-City Medical Center (TCMC). Currently, Dr. Guerin serves as Medical Director for Diabetes Education Services and the Diabetes Service Line at TCMC. He continues to be actively involved in patient and physician education and clinical research.

Dr. Guerin is a Charter Member of the Fellows of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the Endocrine Society. He is also a member of the Professional Section of the American Diabetes Association, the National Lipid Association, the San Diego County Medical Association, and the Mayo Alumni association. His dedication to diabetes has been recognized with an American Diabetes Association’s Provider Recognition Award, with distinction.

Dr. Guerin is married with two children. He enjoys outdoor activities with his family including camping and windsurfing. He has a strong family history of diabetes and heart disease. In fact, his father died of complications from diabetes at age 51; his grandfather died at a young age and also had diabetes. In his practice, he encourages his patients to incorporate good dietary choices and increased exercise for improved health.
