Chijs Van Nieuwenhuizen

prof. dr. Chijs van Nieuwenhuizen believes in the power of combining clinical practice, science & knowledge of experts by experience. Into child & adolescent psychiatry and care transformation. Nieuwenhuizen's research concentrates on gaining more insight into recidivism and psychiatric relapse of youngsters treated in youth forensic psychiatry and youth care. The primary focus is on how we can improve the care and treatment of children and youngsters so that they benefit more from it. In many of the PhD-students Nieuwenhuizen supervise, a strength-based approach (rehabilitation) and the What Works principles (criminology) are combined. Central themes in their projects are (1) research on neuropsychological and cognitive aspects of problematic behavior and (2) research on protective and risk factors of youngsters in preventing recidivism and psychiatric relapse.
