Dr. Chen began his medical education at Kaoshiung Medical University in 1980, and completed his general surgery and plastic surgery residency at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Linkou. He pursued a clinical and research fellowship in plastic surgery from 1997-1998 at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, USA.

His paper “Endoscope assisted repair of orbital medial wall fracture” published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS) journal 1999 was first to be featured as a CME article that year. He became Chairman of the Division of Trauma Plastic Surgery in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Linkou in 2007 and since 2012 he has been Deputy Superintendent of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital at Keelung.

Dr. Chen has authored more than 100 outstanding publications and book chapters. He has served or continues to serve on the editorial boards of several journals including the Journal of Taiwan Society of Plastic Surgery, Plastic Reconstructive Surgery Journal, Asian Journal Surgery, and International Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Trauma.

Dr. Chen has been involved in many local and international AO teaching courses as both faculty and Chairman. Since 2002 he has been the Taiwan representative to the AO Asia Pacific Cranio-maxillofacial workgroup and also serves as their educational board member. He was Secretary General of the Taiwan Society of Plastic Surgery from 2006-2008 and has been the President of the Taiwan Cleft Palate- Craniofacial Association since 2013. He has trained several local and international craniofacial fellows. He currently continues to make significant contributions to the activities and interests of the Taiwan Society of Plastic Surgery.
