Dr. Cheung Chi Wai, MBBS(HK), MD(HKU), FHKCA, FHKAM(Anaesthesiology), FHKCA(Pain Med), Dip Pain Mgt (HKCA) is currently the Clinical Associate Professor of the department and the Honorary Consultant, Department of Anaesthesiology, Queen Mary Hospital. He is also the Assistant Dean of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong since 2009 and responsible for clinical affairs now. He was granted the Doctor of Medicine degree of the University of Hong Kong with research in pain medicine in 2011. His current research interests include pain management (both basic and clinical), pain relief in maxillofacial surgery, and sedation medications and techniques.

Dr. Cheung has published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals of Anaesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He is also a regular invited journal reviewer. Apart from being the Head of the Laboratory, Department of Anaesthesiology, the University of Hong Kong, he has recently established the Laboratory and Clinical Research Institute for Pain at the University of Hong Kong that is a pioneering interdisciplinary academic platform to support and nurture both basic science and clinical pain research in Hong Kong. Dr. Cheung is also very active in his medical specialty. He is the Immediate Past President, the Society of Anaesthetists of Hong Kong, and currently, the Vice President, the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists. He is also the council member of the Hong Kong Pain Society.
