Prof. Hung-Chun Chen is currently the professor of medicine at the department of nephrology, Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital, Taiwan, and is also the honorary president of Taiwan Society of Nephrology. He got his MD and PhD degree in Kaohsiung Medical University, and was also the PhD of Juntendo University of Tokyo, Japan. He devoted to CKD education since 2002, and has collected more than 8,000 cases for CKD education in a single unit. His unit is the first authorized CKD patient education center in Taiwan by National Health Bureau. He founded the department of renal care in medical college of Kaohsiung Medical University in 2003, in which nurses received CKD training for three years and become a professional CKD educator. More than 600 nurses completed the course up to now and become the key persons for CKD prevention in Taiwan. His group was awarded by the government with a “Symbol of National Quality” for CKD care from 2007 to 2018. He organized the 3rd Asian Forum of CKD Initiative (AFCKDI) in Kaohsiung in 2009 to promote CKD education and prevention, and attracted 1,000 participants from 21 countries. He also organized the Annual Conference of ISHD in 2012, ISPD-Asia Pacific Chapter Meeting in 2013, Asian Renal Association-Asian Colloquium in Nephrpology in 2015, and International Conference of Chinese Nephrologists in 2017. He got many awards from both Kaohsiung Medical University and Taiwan Society of Nephrology, and published more than 350 papers. He was regularly invited as a speaker for CKD prevention in Taiwan and many Asian countries in recent years, and is the core member for many renal associations including the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology, Chinese American Society of Nephrology, and International Association of Chinese Nephrologists.
