Charles Mayo is an Associate Professor in Radiation Oncology at the University of Michigan. He is chairman of AAPM Task Group 263: Standardizing Nomenclature Radiation Oncology and a leader in the development of health care informatics and analytics systems and algorithms in Radiation Oncology.

His current research and development efforts focus on medical informatics (infrastructure, standardizations, and analysis), application of statistical methods in treatment and outcomes modeling, and advanced treatment planning methods. The common goal in these efforts is making routine, the use of retrospective statistical models developed from prior treatment experience for all patients treated in a practice to inform decisions for subsequent patients. Chuck received his doctorate in physics from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1990 and then began his career as a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard Cyclotron Laboratory in proton therapy. His subsequent clinical and research efforts have included the development of advanced IMRT and VMAT methods, modeling outcomes as part of QUANTEC, and the development of software applications to improve clinical processes.
